The Pros and Cons of Living in an Apartment

Apartment living is a common stage that many people go through in their lifetime. Some people will only experience it for a couple years, others will spend a majority of their lives living in apartments. Either way, there is good and bad to every living situation.

There are a lot of reasons why people love living in apartments, but also reasons why they cannot wait to move out. For anyone looking to move in the near future, it is a good idea to consider both perspectives. Here are the pros and cons on living on an apartment.

Pro: no maintenance

One of the main reasons why people love apartments is because they do not have to do a lot of the maintenance themselves. This can save a lot of time and hassle for many people. Additionally, there are some new communities and Daybreak homes for sale that offer similar arrangements.

Con: less privacy

People go to their homes to be alone and have some time to themselves. Living in an apartment can make this a little difficult with shared hallways and facilities like laundry rooms that everyone in the building will need to use together.

Pro: less expensive

Price is probably the most common reason why people opt for an apartment. The monthly cost is much lower than a mortgage and most people can get an apartment with little to no credit.

Con: noise

Sharing walls with other people can prove problematic at times. It can be difficult for families to get the rest and relaxation that they need when their neighbors are being loud next door.

Pro: included amenities

In some cases, an apartment complex will have certain amenities that people would not be able to afford on their own. Some of these things include swimming pools, tennis courts and large common areas that everyone in the building can use.

Con: less space

Many apartments offer just enough space for people to live in, not more. Those who have a lot of things to store will find a lot of issues living in an apartment that offers little storage options.

Pro: no long term commitment

For many people, life is ever changing and they do not know where they will be a year from now. Apartment living gives people the flexibility to pick up and move when they need to in order to maintain the flexible lifestyle that they love. This is a great option, then, for young people who are not ready to settle down and start a family.

Con: design and décor restrictions

Every apartment building will have its own set of rules when it comes to changing the design and décor of the space. In most cases, renters will not be allowed to change a lot about the space and will have to live in it as is. This can make it difficult for people to feel truly at home in their rented apartment home.
